William Shatner Will Not Be In New Trek Movie
Oh dear! The original Captain Kirk has not been asked to play a role, not even a small cameo, in the new version of Star Trek thats directed by J.J Abrams! He is, of course, a tad on the cranky side about it. Honestly….I didn’t get into the whole Star Trek thing, but even I don’t understand why he wasn’t asked back either. Especially since several other original cast members have been asked to play roles. Maybe he wasn’t asked back because he does way too many cheesy Priceline.com commercials? Who really knows… but he was basically the biggest star of the original Star Trek.
Here is what William Shatner told T.V’s Extra:
“How could you not put one of the founding figures into a movie that was being resurrected? That doesn’t make good business sense to me!” Shatner continues, “I’ve become even more popular than I was playing Captain Kirk. I’m good box office and I get publicity…. But, they are going in a different direction and it’ll be a wonderful film.â€
I’m sure he rolled his eyes while making that last statement.
Sounds a little sour grapey, but c’mon, it’s Shatner we’re talking about.
It’s true, he’s too popular on his own to appear in a Star Trek remake (weird as that sounds). I think his appearance in the movie would almost detract from it, pull it in another comedic direction.
Much love!
