Quote of the Day: Johnny Depp
October 5th, 2007 posted to Johnny Depp
“I’m not particularly optimistic about society. We’re in an age where everything has gone too far. It’s an ugly world. “I’m truly frightened of America in terms of raising my daughter here. I don’t believe that is an option at all.”- Johnny Depp on raising his daughter in America
He doesn’t want his daughter to turn out anorexic or followed by the paps. He doesn’t want her more concerned with what she’s wearing and how she looks as opposed to what she’s doing and how she feels. He’s scared she’ll be blinded by all the fame crap in the States. BUT… he IS an American. He needs to recognize!

Although I always stand up for all things American, I agree with Johnny when it comes to children. The bad thing is that I don’t know if children would be any better off raised anywhere else. But, hey! At least we can stare at this gorgeous pic of Johnny!

At least one with a clear mind - go for it Johnny!

First of all I think this is an OLD quote since he now has a son as well. But even if it’s not, since when has it become a crime to criticize your country? If you care about your country you should criticize it. It’s how we make things better, by recognizing and fixing what’s broken. Can you spell Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press? I’m not a celeb but I too worry about the wierd emphasis our society places on material things, on appearances, and the truly bizarre sexualization of young girls. I’d say Johnny’s right on in his assessment. I couldn’t afford to split my time between two countries but if I could I would. Meanwhile I teach my daughter to avoid network tv and the gross commercialism that goes with it. We belong to a liberal church, read, attend arts events, and explore different cultures. This country’s media have twisted childhood into a sexualized, cynical mess. We say we love children yet basic needs like education and health care are denied to so many that we have one of the highest infant mortality rates and child poverty rates in the “civilized” world. Go figure.

Carol– this word is the exception to the rule “I before e except after c” and is spelled: weird. With that said, I think if Julia Roberts or Courtney Love would’ve said the same thing as Johnny did then we’d be calling them America haters. But since its coming from unique and sexy Johnny Depp, we are biased. Just my thought, though. Thank you for reading, everyone, and commenting, too! Much love,

I think Johnny is awesome and (from what I read) a great father and family man. I think it’s great that he wants to shield and protect his children from all the celebrity hype. God I love that man!

I can sort of understand his feelings toward America. The paps would probably follow them around ALL the time here, opposed to the South of France, but this IS his country…Don’t get me wrong! I LOVE Johnny, but how could someone leave the country they were raised in to go live in a place he had just been introduced to, with a girl he just met? I’m sure none of JOHNNY’s kids would ever be arrogant, no matter where they were raised. This is just my opinion.

I think Johnny is a very wise person, and he’ll make the best decision WHATEVER he does.
I LOVE U JOHNNY!! =D
