Duane “Dog” Chapman is Racist, In Big Trouble

Since the show started, I’ve been a fan of the show Dog the Bounty Hunter. Then, when my fiance and I met, we started watching the show together, too, and it became one of the handful of shows that we actually like. I’ll admit, I was getting tired of it, but it was still pretty entertaining and possibly one of the more “real” of the “reality” shows on television. But now I don’t think I’ll be able to look at Dog the same.

In a private voicemail, Dog the Bounty Hunter (real name Duane Chapman) used many racial slurs and rants when telling his son Tucker that he didn’t want him to be with his girlfriend, a black woman. Dog said that Tucker couldn’t work for him if he was going to date her and he also claimed it wasn’t because of her color but it was because of the type of person she is. Here is a partial transcript from the tape, sold to The National Enquirer by Dog’s own son Tucker:

“I don’t care if she’s a Mexican, a whore, whatever. It’s not because she’s black, it’s because we use the word n- – - – - sometimes here [...] “I’m not going to take a chance ever in life of losing everything I’ve worked for, for 30 years, because some f- – -ing n- – - – - heard us saying n- – - – -. [...] It’s that we use the word n- – - -. We don’t mean, ‘You f- – -ing scum n- – - – - without a soul… We don’t mean that s- – -, but America would think we mean that.”

If you’re interested in hearing the tirade again or if you haven’t already, you can listen to it HERE. Dog’s son Tucker apparently sold the tape out of anger for his father to The National Enquirer for just $15,000. He ruined his dad’s career and possibly life for just $15,000. Don’t get me wrong, Dog is completely in the wrong but I doubt Tucker did this out of morals. He wanted the cash! Immediately after the tape hit the internet, A&E, the network which is home to Dog’s reality show Dog the Bounty Hunter, released this statement:

A&E has just learned of the story released by the National Enquirer concerning Duane Dog Chapman. We take this matter very seriously. Pending an investigation, we have suspended production on the series. When the inquiry is concluded we will take appropriate action.

And because he’s probably quite scared of losing his show, getting the shit kicked out of him by people who live in Hawaii and for losing each and every fan he has, Dog himself issued a statement to apologize for the tirade and to let us know he’s meeting with a black man to make things better. Dog said:

“My sincerest, heartfelt apologies go out to every person I have offended for my regrettable use of very inappropriate language. I am deeply disappointed in myself for speaking out of anger to my son and using such a hateful term in a private phone conversation. It was completely taken out of context. I was disappointed in his choice of a friend, not due to her race, but her character. However, I should have never used that term. I have the utmost respect and aloha for black people – who have already suffered so much due to racial discrimination and acts of hatred. I did not mean to add yet another slap in the face to an entire race of people who have brought so many gifts to this world. I am ashamed of myself and I pledge to do whatever I can to repair this damage I have caused.

“In Hawaii, we have something called Ho’oponopono, where people come together to resolve crises and restore peace and balance. I am meeting with my spiritual advisor, Rev. Tim Storey, and hope to meet with other black leaders so they can see who I really am and teach me the right thing to do to make things right, again.

“I know that all of my fans are deeply disappointed in me, as well, as I have tried to be a model for doing the right thing. I did not do the right thing this time, and hope you will forgive me. We learn from our mistakes, as my story of overcoming a life of crime has proven, and I will learn from this one for the rest of my life.”

I think that statement would’ve been more effective if it was trimmed down to one, solid paragraph with his deepest apologies and maybe an offer to do anything he could to make the situation right. Instead he babbles and it’s worthless. Plus, we don’t care if he’s meeting with his Reverend. Who’s to say he won’t pay the guy off? After he issued his statement, it was obvious it did no good, because black figures around America are petitioning against Dog and his show. Because of this, A&E has suspended production of the show until further notice.

This is all really horrible. We are supposed to be living in a time where everyone is equal, and Dog is supposed to represent that, being the guy who gives second chances to drug heads and wife-abusers. Very sad. I think the show should be canceled, too. What do you think? Should the show be canceled?

  1. No. The show shouldn’t be canceled. He shouldn’t have apologized for something he said in PRIVATE. Imo what he said was pretty benign to begin with. And he should kick the shit out of his son for betraying him. That’s what I think. Oh, and people need to grow thicker skins. This racist-card crap is boring the hell out of me.

  2. I agree with Ick. Why should a whole race of people take the comment personally when it was only made about one person. The son’s girlfriend has a right to be offended and angry, but no one else does. Things like this are taken too far lately.

  3. I don’t think his show should be canceled either. I agree with Ick and Paula. He should say sorry to the girl but it is no one else’s business what he said in private. I bet he is calling his son way worse than the N word and no one is going to get all offended by that.

  4. No, I don’t think it should be cancelled. This ridulous outrage over the N word is beyond belief especially when the rappers say it constantly.
This was a private conversation and his druggie, ex-con son betrayed him. Let’s get over this self righteous nonsense.

  5. [...] Dumbass [...]

  6. My god people. I am amazed at how “WHITE” most of these comments are. You people scare me .. Look .. It”s NEVER OK .. “EVER” … to use that word or any racial slur.. YOU have no idea how it makes people feel (that”s obvious) oh and why there is so much acceptable Hate in America is astonishing to me. Please don”t start with the Freedom of Speech stuff because if one Black American uttrered the words “Kill all White People” .. American .. and I mean White America would go crazy. Now before you go all North Korea on me … I”m just trying to make a point .. WORDS do have meaning .. and some .. especially the “N” word Hurt far more than others. I don”t want to pray for him .. and I don”t care if 30 years of work is down the drain … it”s simple .. JUST STOP USING THAT LANGUAGE! My advise .. Clean up your own life and Bro … if you”re having that hard of a time communicating with your son .. can”t seem to find the right words .. Invest in a Dictionary. America Take a stand .. It”s just wrong Take Care

  7. No, this a$$hole should have his show cancelled. I don’t care in what venue he made these comments, the comments are completely unacceptable and offensive.

A&E did the right thing. Thank goodness they know a lot more about PR than you idiots.

  8. Ick, Paula, and Kimm. It clearly shows whay type of people you may be and i would tell anyone of color to watch their back around you! I dont care if it was in private its wrong! To think that its ok in private is saying ill smile in your face but when you turn your back your still a N***!$ to me. Ha! You will never know what its like. But im not one to play the race card either. I am “Black” by classification. I dont think he needs to loose his job. I like DOG. hes done a lot for his community. Probly more than all of us put together. It was not appropriate for him to use the word anyways. Hell i dont use the word! I know that your cant see past your own noses when it comes to issues like this but do me one favor……try….! >LoOnVeE

  9. I understand that there are times in everyones life when they say things that as soon as they come out of our mouths we wish we could take them back. The only difference with the celebrates doing this is there is always someone looking over their shoulder to make some money off of them. I am adult enough to know that just because someone says something in anger to their adult child it shouldn’t be a public forum. In my opinion his child is a gold digger and thinks that his father should be giving him money just so that he will speak to him. My thinking is that I hope the $15,000.00 was worth what he has lost in family respect and this just proves that he is not a 10th of the man his father has become.

  10. This was a personal and very delicate conversation to his son. All Parents – and I mean ALL – would give the same advice to their son or daughter. Maybe not in the same manner – but it would still be a forceful and delicate conversation in ANY family. To label Dwayne racist for this personal conversation of good advice to his son is unjust. He was expressing his concern and love for his son. He was not on a racial bandstand like others in history. The same conversations happen everyday in India, Greece, Asia and middle east countries, where missed relationships & marriages occur. Not to forget Dowry deaths, threats & violence. What has Dwayne done that is so different.
The real loser in all this is the son who has shown disrespect for his fathers advice, made a poor judgement and shown his true colours. No son should ever sell a loving Dad out like that !!!!!!
I will still watch and support Dwayne Dog Chapman.
    Go for it DOG !!!!!!

  11. long live the dog! don’t cancel the show.

  12. Yeah right, its NEVER alright to use the “N – Word”.. but to my recollection from past experiences with “Black People”, dont “Black people” say the “N – Word” to each other?.. How racist can you get… “We can say it to each other because we’re black, but when a crack says it we use the race hate card”.. I mean come on, get a grip people, if you find my comment racist then its fine by me, I’m not a hard core white supremacist.. I’m just a regular white guy that gets seriously annoyed at black people because all they seem to do is use there skin color as a way of undermining the law and other such things.

  13. Duane knows what he said was wrong and hurtful but dont stop the show he works with all types of people we love the show in the U.K

  14. Get real! The white sheet has come off Dog’s head and now everyone knows about him. It doesn’t matter if it was said in private. This loser is fnally exposed! If you really want to know how a person thinks, all you have to do is listen to a private conversation. His rants came from his heart, and it wasn’t just about this girl in particular. You heard him say that if leasa was dating a black guy how they’d all be upset. So this says that all any black person is to him ia a Ngger. I use to be a fan, but now I’m not and never will be again. I have no respect for him or any other closet racist! Some white people like the ones who have posted here can be such hypocrites! You are just like him. You think that the world revolves around you, but guess what it doesn’t! You have to share this planet with other races who are just a important as you believe you are! WE all deserve respect! If other people called you degrading names, such as the ones I don’t care to mention, even in a private conversation, you’d be pissed. It’s not a race card; it’s reality! So get off your ignorant high horses and realize that people who feel this way about others should not be tolerated! LASTLY, It’s time to stop spreading ignorance. This man has young children, whom I’m sure hears the N word all the time, since he admits to using it around the house. What a dad huh? And that Beth, what a mom. (said with great sarcasm.) It’s no wonder why racism runs rampant from generation to generation. Wake up ignorant Americans. It’s not okay! Ever. He’s a bigger coward than I ever imagined.

  15. We are all Racist to a point. Dont tell me no one out there has not had a racist thought or comment about another.

  16. We are all Racist to a point. Dont tell me no one out there has not had a racist thought or comment about another.

  17. Funny how people can point the finger at someone for using “Nigger” in a private conversation. But its alright for one black guy to say it to another, Hypocrites.

What are we going to do about it?.. Sitting here bitching and moaning about something that happened within a family and about someone you don’t know, get off your high horse and stop butting in, in peoples lives.

Its just the whole “Race card” all over again.
