R.I.P. Roy Scheider

Best known as playing the police-dad from the scary movie Jaws, actor Roy Scheider passed away on Sunday at the age of 75 years old. From the AP:

Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The hospital did not release his cause of death.

However, hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital’s Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

I totally loved this guy. I saw the movie first, when I was really young (and the movie, by the time I saw it, was already really old) but after I saw it I definitely wanted to read the book. So I went back and read the book and pictured Roy as the hunky cop as I read and it made it a lot better. He did such a good job in that movie, seriously!

Rest in peace, Roy! Our thoughts and condolences go out to his friends and family. Just know he’s in a better place!

Heath Ledger, 1979-2008

“This is such a sad event. I admired Heath enormously, he was such a sensitive and committed and daring actor. This is truly a tragedy. I send my condolences to his family and friends and colleagues.”- Geoffrey Rush

“I deeply respect Heath’s work and always admired his continuing development as an artist.  My thoughts are with his family and close friends.”- Cate Blanchett

“Heath was an exceptional human being with a massive heart: always generous, adventurous and impressive. I always believed, as a young man, he was wise well beyond his years. And as far as his work goes, I know I’m not alone in thinking he was just getting started to realise an incredible potential. My heart goes out to those who knew him best: To his family, To Michelle and Matilda, and to his friends, especially his Perth gang who I know will be heartbroken right now. Those friends and his family were everything. It really is a sad day. An incredible shock.”- Joel Edgerton

“I had such great hope for him. He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.’- Mel Gibson

“What a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to Heath’s family.”- Nicole Kidman

“It’s really, really sad. I hope his family is okay. I wish them the best.”- Charlize Theron

“Losing him at any age would be a loss but it was pretty rough news. I was really shocked by it. He’s touched me deeply as a talent and it’s a great loss.”- John Travolta

“Like many in the acting community I am tremendously saddened and shocked by Heath’s death. Whatever the circumstances, Heath was someone who had everything to live for. He was a very nice man, and a phenomenal screen actor. This is unbelievable.”- Sam Neill

“Mate, I had such admiration for you. Your dignity, humility, grace and talent will always be an inspiration to me. You shook the world and made us take notice. My heart goes out to you, your friends and your family, especially little Matilda Rose. May your spirit live on to affect all those who hear about you and see your great work.”- Guy Pearce

“It is tragic that we have lost one of our nation’s finest actors in the prime of his life. Heath Ledger’s diverse and challenging roles will be remembered as some of the great performances by an Australian actor.” – Prime Minister Kevin Rudd

“He was very funny and I remember having a great time with him. I know everyone on the crew enjoyed working with him and the producers wanted him to stay with the show for much longer. My heart goes out to his family and to his little girl. It is such a sad day for so many people in our industry.- Kate Ritchie

“Heath Ledger was a courageous actor and a great soul. He gave us the gift of sharing his fearless and beautiful love of his craft, and of all who worked with him for which all of us will be eternally grateful.”- James Schamus

“He handled his career incredibly well – he made a decision about four years ago to stop being led by producers and managers and to forge his own way. He started working with the most interesting directors. He was so successful at breaking out of the teen idol image. We saw with his relationship with the paparazzi that he was vulnerable and felt intensely invaded and got so unbelievably distressed. The photographers would try to push him into a reaction and he was a young man so he would react.”- Neil Armfield

R.I.P. Heath Ledger

We know him most famously for his portrayal of homosexual cowboy Ennis in Brokeback Mountain. He also starred in 10 Things I Hate About You, The Patriot and Monster’s Ball. 28-year-old actor Heath Ledger was found dead today in his Soho apartment. The actor has a two-year-old daughter named Matilda Rose with fellow actress Michelle Williams. Although the autopsy has yet to take place, it is rumored that Heath over-dosed (accidental or suicidal has not been determined) on sleeping pills. From TMZ:

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime, adding that prescription pills were found near his body.

According to NYPD a masseuse arrived at Ledger’s apartment and was let in by a housekeeper. When Ledger didn’t answer his bedroom door, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened it and found him unconscious. They attempted to wake him; when they couldn’t, they called 911.

We’re told when paramedics responded, the actor was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams — they separated in September, 2007. He plays The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, “The Dark Knight” and is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking role as Ennis in “Brokeback Mountain.”

We’re told Heath had dinner last night with his model girlfriend Gemma Ward.

How horribly sad. When I heard this news, my stomach was in a knot for an hour. My deepest sympathies go out to all of Heath’s family and closest friends. How young to go so early! I really hope that he is in a better place.

UPDATE: Alan Horn, President and COO of Warner Bros. and Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group have issued the following statement to TMZ. The studio is producing the next Batman film, “The Dark Knight.” “The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news. The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”

UPDATE 2: Law enforcement tells TMZ Ledger’s body was found face down and naked on the bedroom floor. There were no visible signs of any trauma. Law enforcement tells TMZ Heath Ledger’s autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

UPDATE 3: TMZ has been contacted by a rep from Heath’s family. The cops told the family Heath’s death was accidental and there is no evidence to support the buzz that he may have committed suicide. They are particularly distraught over media reports that he may have taken his own life. The family says he was not that kind of person. As we just reported, Heath was ill with pneumonia when he died.

UPDATE 4: Michelle Williams is “devastated” by the death of her former fiance, Heath Ledger. We’re told that “words cannot describe” the pain she is in over the news about the father of her child, Matilda Rose. We’re told she is on a plane heading to NY right now.

UPDATE 5: Michelle Williams was on location in Sweden, believed to be with 2-year-old daughter Matilda, when she got the news.

UPDATE 6: CNN is reporting that the autopsy results are inconclusive, meaning there is no certain cause of death just yet. They will know more about why and how Heath died in 10 days.

R.I.P. Actor Brad Renfro

Everyday something sad happens in the world but we don’t always know about it. Yesterday was a sad day; actor Brad Renfro was found dead in his home. According to TMZ:

The 25-year-old actor was found dead at his Los Angeles home this morning. The cause of death has not been determined, however, Renfro had a history of drug abuse.

Sources tell us Renfro, who had starring roles in “The Client” and “Apt Pupil” had been working valiantly to stay clean, especially since this summer. Renfro had been convicted of several drug offenses, including attempted heroin possession.

Renfro had been filming a movie with Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie, “The Informers,” just wrapped.

Renfro has had a rough time personally since moving from Tennessee to Los Angeles. His parents split, and we’re told he did not have real guidance from adults as he tried navigating the treacherous movie industry.

Sadly, it seems like its drugs more time than not. Our condolences go out to his family. Rest in peace!

Kanye West’s Mom Died

It’s sad when anyone dies, even if you didn’t know them, isn’t it? Even though I am not a huge fan of Kanye West and his crazy antics, I am definitely feeling for him right now because over the weekend, he lost his mother. Quite sad. TMZ reports:

Kanye West’s mother, Dr. Donda West, 58, has died. Multiple reports indicate that Dr. West’s death may have been a result of complications from some sort of surgery.

Kanye was in London when he was told. He is on his way back to the U.S.

That’s really sad and our warmest thoughts go out to Kanye. His mother was his manager and was CEO of West Brands, LLC and was basically his right hand man. Kanye’s mother was also chair of the English Department at Chicago State University. Today we need to call our mothers and tell them we love them!
