Brandy is Off the Hook for Fatal Car Accident
Singer Brandy will not face charges by the L.A. City Attorney over her 2006 car accident that left a woman dead, Usmagazine.com confirms.
Frank Mateljan, the city attorney’s office spokesman, tells Usmagazine.com:
“The City Attorney’s Office has decided not to file misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges against Brandy Norwood in the case stemming from a December 30, 2006 traffic collision.
“After conducting a thorough investigation, which included consulting with some of the top accident reconstruction experts in the country, City prosecutors concluded that there was insufficient evidence from which a jury could find Ms. Norwood guilty of such a charge beyond a reasonable doubt.â€
On December 30, 2006, Brandy drove her Land Rover into the back of a Honda driven by Awatef Aboudihaj. Aboudihaj’s car smashed into a third vehicle before being struck by someone else. Aboudihaj, 38, later died of her injuries.
Brandy was not injured in the crash. There was no evidence that alcohol or drugs were involved.
The singer isn’t entirely off the hook yet: She still faces four wrongful-death suits filed on behalf of Aboudihaj’s family and another victim of the crash. A trial date is set for January 28.
